Statement of Inclusion
LIBRARIES ARE FOR EVERYONE
Solon Public Library is dedicated to fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment for everyone. We are committed to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of our services, resources, and programs. We strive to provide equal access to information, resources, and opportunities for our community, inclusive of all races, religions, gender identities, ages, abilities, sexual orientations, socioeconomic statuses, national or ethnic origins, languages, political affiliations, citizenship statuses, and education levels.
We believe that embracing diversity enriches our community, enhances learning experiences, and strengthens the social fabric of our society. We champion First Amendment rights, the freedom to read, and free access to information for all.
We strive to acquire materials and host programs that promote and boost marginalized voices, provide a diverse range of viewpoints, and celebrate a variety of cultures and identities. We strive to make our space and our programs accessible to all. Our goal is to ensure each member of our community feels welcome to use our spaces, attend our programs, access our collections, and ask questions.
At Solon Public Library, we are here to learn and grow with our community. We are always open to feedback, purchase suggestions, and program recommendations. Together, we work towards a library that is accessible and inclusive, where every individual feels valued and respected, and has a sense of belonging.
We acknowledge that we are on the traditional, ancestral, unceded land of the Báxoǰe (Bah Kho-je) or Ioway, Sauk (Sac), and Meskwaki (Fox) peoples. We offer our respect to the elders of these peoples, both past and present, as well as future generations. (ACLU Iowa https://www.aclu-ia.org/en/aclu-iowa-land-acknowledgement)
